You can create bitmap images by importing them, by converting path objects to image objects, or by drawing and painting in image edit mode. For more information about importing images, see Creating Fireworks documents by importing.
Note: When you open a bitmap image file such as a JPEG in Fireworks, it opens in image edit mode.
You can convert selected objects that contain paths into a single image object. You can convert selected path objects and text into a single image object. You can also convert any number of selected bitmap images to a single image object.
A path-to-image conversion is irreversible, except when Edit > Undo is still an option. Images cannot be converted to path objects.
To convert selected objects to a bitmap image:
Choose Modify > Merge Images.
To create a new image object by drawing and painting:
1 | Choose Insert > Empty Image. |
2 | Choose an image edit tool and begin drawing or painting. |

To create a new image object using the Marquee or Lasso tool:
Click an empty area in the document with the Marquee or Lasso tool.
